Brandyn’s Law AKA "House Bill No. 1779" was introduced by PA Senator Frank Burns. It is a bill that defines what “bullying” is and gives schools the right to develop strong anti-bullying policies. It holds schools accountable to report bullying and ALL conduct that constitutes as a criminal offense. This law would require schools to report any claims of bullying within 30 days in an online database and must report alleged criminal activity to the police right away. Schools would be required to have a designated anti-bullying specialist for each school entity. It requires schools to impose anti-bullying sanctions and requires the school MUST notify parents and provide them with a written action plan if their child has been the alleged victim of bullying. Under Brandyn’s law, schools are required to develop a written action plan to handle any and all reported or observed bullying. Schools must have an online database on school and office websites for bullying to be reported. This law holds schools accountable with disciplinary action before the Professional Standards and Practice Commission with fines for failing to report or take action against alleged bullying including any cyber bulling. Brandyn’s Law requires schools to maintain updated records of all incidents of violence/bullying and requires that they follow up on action plans and evaluate the plans effectiveness.
Brandyn's legacy lives on in a poignant self-portrait, bearing the words "Don't Give Up."
This artwork, a reflection of his resilience amidst unchecked bullying at Forest Hills, is a call to action.
It urges us not to give up the fight for a safer, kinder educational environment where no child suffers as he did.
Let’s honor Brandyn by embracing his message, advocating for change, and ensuring every student feels protected and valued.
Together, we can turn his hope into our mission.
